A Guide to Short Term Accommodation (STA) with Seaside Support Services
Short Term Accommodation (STA) is an essential support option for many NDIS participants, providing temporary accommodation when needed. Whether you require a break, a change of scenery, or support when your regular caregivers are unavailable, STA can be a valuable resource. At Seaside Support Services, we specialise in providing high-quality STA services tailored to individual needs. Here’s everything you need to know about STA and how we can support you.
What is STA Accommodation?

STA is NDIS-funded temporary accommodation designed to provide support to participants while giving their carers a short break. This funding helps maintain a stable living situation by offering a supportive environment when regular care arrangements are unavailable. STA can be accessed flexibly and is an excellent way to experience new opportunities, build skills, and develop independence.

How Long Can I Stay in STA Accommodation?

The NDIS funds up to 28 days of STA per year. This funding is part of your CORE Budget, meaning it does not need to be written into your NDIS plan. You can use this funding flexibly, whether for a single weekend stay, a block of up to 14 days, or spread throughout the year as needed.

Can I Book 28 Nights of STA for One Stay?

As per the NDIS Price Guide, STA is typically used for short periods of up to 14 days at a time. If you require a stay longer than 14 nights, written approval from the NDIA is needed. If this applies to you, our Care Navigators are here to assist and provide guidance on the necessary steps.

How Often Can I Use STA?

You can access up to 28 nights of STA per year, distributed according to your needs. Many participants choose to use their STA for weekend stays, short breaks, or multi-day visits throughout the year.

Can I Book More Than 28 Nights of STA in One Year?

Generally, STA is capped at 28 nights per 12-month period. For additional nights, written approval from the NDIA is required. If you believe you need extra STA support, contact your Support Coordinator, Plan Manager, or our Care Navigators for assistance.

Is STA the Same as Respite Care?

STA is often used for respite, giving informal carers a break while ensuring participants receive necessary support. However, STA is not intended for emergency accommodation, holiday stays, or travel for personal activities such as business trips or sporting events.

Are Paid Supports Included in My Accommodation Booking?

Yes! At Seaside Support Services, our professionally trained and compassionate team provides the best care during your STA visit. Our goal is to ensure you feel comfortable, supported, and engaged in a safe environment.

What Support is Provided During an STA Stay?

STA support varies based on individual needs but generally includes:

  • Accommodation
  • Personal care
  • Meal preparation
  • Social and recreational activities

While STA funding covers essential support services, it does not include non-disability-related expenses such as event tickets or personal purchases. However, at Seaside we include one or 2 paid activities (like Sealife or Australia Zoo) into your stay depending on the booking length.

How is STA Approved in My NDIS Plan?

STA funding comes from your CORE supports, and up to 28 nights can typically be accessed flexibly each year. If you need guidance on how to use this funding, our team is happy to help, or contact your Support Coordinator or Plan Manager.

How Does Seaside Support Services Charge for STA?

Seaside Support Services follows the NDIS pricing arrangements for STA. Costs will depend on the level of support required. We ensure transparency in pricing and will provide clear information about costs before confirming your booking.

Do I Need to Have My Funding Approved Before Booking?

Yes. You must have appropriate funding available in your NDIS plan. Seaside Support Services will confirm your booking once your Plan Manager verifies your funding availability.

How Does STA Benefit Both Participants and Carers?

STA offers numerous benefits, including:

  • A change of environment and new experiences
  • Opportunities to develop new skills and meet new people
  • Temporary relief for informal carers, helping maintain a sustainable living arrangement
When Might STA Be Particularly Helpful?
